A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of November 5 through 11, 2017, as
"National Radiologic Technology Week" in Pennsylvania,
focusing on the safe medical radiation environment and
celebrating the important role that medical imaging
professionals across this Commonwealth play in the health and
well-being of patients.
WHEREAS, The health of the residents of this Commonwealth is
a major concern and responsibility of health care professionals
serving in this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Qualified practitioners who specialize in the use of
medical radiation and imaging technology to aid in the diagnosis
and treatment of disease share a commitment to bring the
residents of this Commonwealth a safer, more compassionate
environment now and in the future; and
WHEREAS, Radiologic technologists play a vital role in
diagnosing and treating patients by capturing images via
ionizing radiation, specializing in a variety of radiation
therapy modalities, understanding radiologic science and

providing important information to physicians and other medical
professionals; and
WHEREAS, On November 8, 1895, Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen
revolutionized medicine when he discovered the X-ray and, in
1901, he was awarded the first Nobel Prize in Physics for his
discovery; and
WHEREAS, The first "National Radiologic Technology Week" was
celebrated in 1979 to honor the important contributions of
medical imaging professionals to the safe and thorough treatment
of patients; and
WHEREAS, There are 17,000 professionals in the radiologic
sciences living and working in this Commonwealth, providing the
highest diagnostic and therapeutic care to individuals; and
WHEREAS, These medical professionals are dedicated to the
highest standard of professionalism and continually maintain
those standards through education, lifelong learning,
credentialing and personal commitment; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
week of November 5 through 11, 2017, as "National Radiologic
Technology Week" in Pennsylvania, focusing on the safe medical
radiation environment and celebrating the important role that
medical imaging professionals across this Commonwealth play in
the health and well-being of patients.
