A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of November 11 through 19, 2017, as "Hunger
and Homelessness Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The National Coalition for the Homeless and the
National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness have
sponsored "National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week" each
year during the week prior to Thanksgiving; and
WHEREAS, The purpose of "National Hunger and Homelessness
Awareness Week" is to educate the public about the many reasons
people are hungry and homeless, including the shortage of
affordable housing in this Commonwealth for very low-income
residents, and to encourage support for homeless assistance
service providers as well as community service opportunities for
students and school service organizations; and
WHEREAS, Coordinated activities take place during this week
to promote education, service and action domestically and

internationally with the aim of ending hunger and homelessness
and strengthening individuals and communities; and
WHEREAS, The theme of "National Hunger and Homelessness
Awareness Week" is "Resolve to Fight Poverty"; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives recognizes that hunger
and homelessness continue to be serious problems for many
families and individuals in this Commonwealth; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
week of November 11 through 19, 2017, as "Hunger and
Homelessness Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania and urge
Pennsylvanians to gain a greater awareness of the problems of
hunger and homelessness in their communities and this
Commonwealth.
