A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of September 2017 as "Suicide Prevention
Month" and September 10, 2017, as "Suicide Prevention Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Suicide is a major preventable cause of premature
death; and
WHEREAS, Coordinated suicide prevention is an achievable
global public health goal; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives notes the imperative of
raising awareness that suicide is preventable; and
WHEREAS, According to the World Health Organization, nearly
3,000 individuals die by suicide daily; and
WHEREAS, For every individual who has died by suicide, 20 or
more individuals have attempted to end their lives; and

WHEREAS, According to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, suicide claims the lives of more than 1,894
Pennsylvanians each year; and
WHEREAS, Reducing suicide rates requires a worldwide response
to known psychosocial, cultural and environmental risk factors;
and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives affirms that we must
make every effort to improve education and awareness and
decrease stigmatization relating to suicide; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
month of September 2017 as "Suicide Prevention Month" and
September 10, 2017, as "Suicide Prevention Day" in Pennsylvania.
