A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of May 2017 as "Building Safety Month" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives is committed to
recognizing that our growth and strength depend on the safety
and economic value of the homes, buildings and infrastructure
that serve our residents, in everyday life and in times of
natural disaster; and
WHEREAS, Confidence in the structural integrity of the
buildings and other structures within our communities is
achieved through the work of building safety and fire prevention
officials, architects, engineers, builders, tradespeople, design
professionals, laborers and others in the construction industry;
and
WHEREAS, Many of these individuals are members of the
International Code Council (ICC), a United States-based
organization that brings together Federal, State and local

officials to create and recommend standards for the buildings
where we live, learn, work, worship and play; and
WHEREAS, The members of the Pennsylvania Association of
Building Code Officials, the ICC's Pennsylvania State
Professional Chapter, and the members of other ICC chapters in
this Commonwealth, including the Lancaster County Code
Association, the Berks County Building and Code Association, the
Pennsylvania Building Officials Conference (PennBOC), the
Commonwealth Building Officials, the Pennsylvania Association of
Code Officials, the Liberty Chapter of Philadelphia, the
Pennsylvania Association of Fire Code Officials, the American
Society of Safety Engineers Western Pennsylvania Chapter and
PennBOC Regions I and V, develop and recommend codes to protect
Pennsylvanians in buildings constructed across this
Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, "Building Safety Month" is sponsored by the ICC and
the Pennsylvania Association of Building Code Officials along
with all other ICC chapters in this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, "Code Officials: Partners in Community Safety and
Economic Growth," this year's theme for "Building Safety Month,"
serves to remind the public about the important role of our
local code officials; and
WHEREAS, "Building Safety Month" encourages all
Pennsylvanians to be aware of the importance of building safety
and resilient construction, fire prevention, disaster mitigation
and new technologies in the construction industry and to take
appropriate steps to ensure that the places where we live,
learn, work, worship and play are safe; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
month of May 2017 as "Building Safety Month" in Pennsylvania;

and be it further
RESOLVED, That residents of this Commonwealth consider
projects to improve building safety at home and in the community
and acknowledge the essential service provided by State and
local building departments and Federal agencies in protecting
lives and property; and be it further
RESOLVED, That Pennsylvanians be encouraged to join
communities across America in participating in "Building Safety
Month" activities.
