A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of April 2017 as "School Library Month" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Learning to become effective users of information
and ideas is essential as this Commonwealth's youths prepare for
a future characterized by change; and
WHEREAS, School libraries provide access to information
within the school and to resources outside the school; and
WHEREAS, School librarians play a vital role in the teaching
and learning process; and
WHEREAS, Promoting competencies in new and developing
technologies is an integral part of school library programs; and
WHEREAS, School libraries offer an environment conducive to
reading and learning, critical thinking, creative expression,
investigation and research, professional growth and curriculum

development and enhancement; and
WHEREAS, School libraries are not only places where
information can be found, they are places that can bring
pleasure and recreation to students for many years to come; and
WHEREAS, School library programs promote literacy and the
enjoyment of reading, viewing and listening; and
WHEREAS, School library programs are an important asset in
the education of the youths of this Commonwealth; therefore be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
month of April 2017 as "School Library Month" in Pennsylvania.
