A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of May 2017 as "Melanoma and Skin Cancer
Detection and Prevention Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Most people do not realize that the skin is the
largest and most visible organ of the body and performs many
essential tasks, such as regulating body temperature, protecting
internal organs, providing sensation and supporting metabolic
functions; and
WHEREAS, According to current estimates, one in five
Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime; and
WHEREAS, More than 2 million cases of nonmelanoma skin cancer
are diagnosed in the United States each year; and
WHEREAS, Recent estimates show there will be 161,790 new
cases of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, diagnosed
in the United States each year; and
