A RESOLUTION
Honoring female veterans who heroically served our country as
members of the United States Armed Forces.
WHEREAS, Women have served in our armed forces since the
Civil War; and
WHEREAS, An estimated 435,000 women served in World War I and
World War II; and
WHEREAS, While the total veteran population is decreasing,
the number of female veterans continues to increase; and
WHEREAS, Between 1990 and 2008, the women veteran population
increased from 1,200,000 to 1,800,000; and
WHEREAS, As of September 2016, the total veteran population
in the United States and Puerto Rico was approximately
21,386,156, with women numbering 2,051,484; and
WHEREAS, It is projected that women veterans will represent

more than 10% of the total veteran population by 2020; and
WHEREAS, According to the United States Department of
Veterans Affairs, as of 2016, there are in excess of 71,319
female veterans in Pennsylvania; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor female
veterans who heroically served our country as members of the
United States Armed Forces.
