A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of January 30 through February 3, 2017, as
"Tax Identity Theft Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Tax-related identity theft was the most common form
of identity theft reported to the Federal Trade Commission in
2014; and
WHEREAS, According to the Internal Revenue Service, more than
300,000 American taxpayers had their tax return details stolen
as a result of the 2015 security breach; and
WHEREAS, According to the Internal Revenue Service,
approximately $5.8 billion in fraudulent tax refunds were paid
in 2013 related to identity theft; and
WHEREAS, According to the Federal Trade Commission, tax
refund fraud is the largest and fastest growing identity theft
category; and
WHEREAS, Approximately 5,000 victims have paid more than
$28.5 million to scammers who pose as IRS agents according to

the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration; therefore
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
week of January 30 through February 3, 2017, as "Tax Identity
Theft Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.
