A RESOLUTION
Designating January 30, 2017, as "Pennsylvanians with
Disabilities Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The act of May 26, 1988 (P.L.413, No.71), designated
January 30, Franklin Delano Roosevelt's birthday, as "Day of the
Disabled"; and
WHEREAS, The act of June 2, 1993 (P.L.44, No.14), amended the
act of May 26, 1988 (P.L.413, No.71), to designate January 30,
Franklin Delano Roosevelt's birthday, as "Pennsylvanians with
Disabilities Day"; and
WHEREAS, "Pennsylvanians with Disabilities Day" is meant,
according to the act of June 2, 1993 (P.L.44, No.14), to
recognize and honor "citizens of Pennsylvania who have
disabilities"; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvanians with disabilities are valued members
of society and all members of society deserve the right to life,

liberty and the pursuit of happiness; and
WHEREAS, This Commonwealth has a history of valuing
individuals with disabilities and providing services intended to
promote each individual's ability to live, contribute and
achieve status in their respective communities; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate January
30, 2017, as "Pennsylvanians with Disabilities Day" in
Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives encourage
Pennsylvanians to appropriately recognize and commemorate
individuals with disabilities who have distinguished themselves
and this Commonwealth in the spirit of the late President
Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
