A RESOLUTION
Recognizing January 27, 2017, as "International Holocaust
Remembrance Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, During World War II, Germany's Nazi regime, led by
Adolf Hitler, invaded several European countries in order to
accomplish its goals of expanding its power and territory and
providing for racial purity; and
WHEREAS, Germany's Nazi regime executed millions of Jews as
part of its goal to provide for racial purity; and
WHEREAS, The murder of approximatley six million European
Jews and millions of others by Germany's Nazi regime during
World War II came to be known as the Holocaust; and
WHEREAS, On January 27, 1945, the largest concentration camp,
Auschwitz-Birkenau, was liberated by Soviet troops, resulting in
the freedom of many Jews who experienced the atrocities of the
Nazi regime; and
