AN ACT
Designating an interchange of Interstate 180 in Loyalsock
Township, Lycoming County, as the United States Army Sgt.
Thomas H. Woodruff, Sr., and United States Marine Corps Sgt.
Hamilton T. Woodruff Memorial Interchange.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. United States Army Sgt. Thomas H. Woodruff, Sr., and
United States Marine Corps Sgt. Hamilton T. Wooodruff
Memorial Interchange.
(a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as
follows:
(1) United States Army Sgt. Thomas H. Woodruff, Sr.,
lived most of his life in Loyalsock Township, Lycoming
County.
(2) Sgt. Thomas Woodruff, Sr., served in the United
States Army during the Korean Conflict as a supply sergeant
and, after returning home from active duty, continued his
life of service.

(3) In 1948, Sgt. Thomas H. Woodruff, Sr., joined the
Loyalsock Township Volunteer Fire Company Number 1, where he
served in various capacities.
(4) In addition to being appointed Justice of the Peace,
Sgt. Thomas H. Woodruff, Sr., was elected to the Loyalsock
School Board.
(5) Sadly, in May 2010, after battling cancer, Sgt.
Thomas H. Woodruff, Sr., passed away.
(6) Sgt. Thomas H. Woodruff, Sr., is survived by his
wife of 45 years, the former Shirley Boyer from
Montoursville, his children Carol (Dave) Yorks, Thomas Jr.
(Tami), Howard (Dawn), Robert, and Susan (Scott) Lorson. Two
granddaughters, six grandsons and one great-granddaughter
also survive him.
(7) Sgt. Thomas H. Woodruff, Sr.'s grandson, United
States Marine Corps Sgt. Hamilton T. Woodruff, was born in
Williamsport, Lycoming County.
(8) Sgt. Hamilton T. Woodruff attended Duboistown
Elementary School, South Williamsport Area Junior High School
and Mansfield Area High School, graduating as the president
and salutatorian of his class in 2004 and accepting early
enlistment for the United States Marine Corps between his
junior and senior year.
(9) While serving in the United State Marine Corps, Sgt.
Hamilton T. Woodruff was an Arabic translator. As a member of
the Recon Group, Sgt. Hamilton Woodruff intercepted
communications and interpreted those communications that had
targeted his fellow troops.
(10) Sadly, on April 13, 2009, Sgt. Hamilton T. Woodruff
was involved in a vehicle accident while returning to Camp

Lejeune, North Carolina, and he died on April 14, 2009.
(11) Sgt. Hamilton T. Woodruff posthumously received a
Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Award for his lifesaving
work in the Marine Corps.
(b) Designation.--The Faxon Interchange of Interstate 180 at
Northway Road in Loyalsock Township, Lycoming County, is
designated as the United States Army Sgt. Thomas H. Woodruff,
Sr., and United States Marine Corps Sgt. Hamilton T. Woodruff
Memorial Interchange.
(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the
interchange.
Section 2. Effective date.
This act shall take effect in 60 days.
