AN ACT
Amending Title 61 (Prisons and Parole) of the Pennsylvania
Consolidated Statutes, in general administration, providing
for secure firearm storage at State correctional
institutions.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Title 61 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes
is amended by adding a section to read:
ยง 1106. Secure firearm storage at State correctional
institutions.
(a) Duties.-- The department shall provide a secure storage
unit at a State correctional institution for the purpose of
storing a personal firearm belonging to a corrections officer.
The chief administrator shall designate the location of the
secure storage unit outside of the secure perimeter of the State
correctional institution.
(b) Carrying authorized.--A corrections officer may carry
personal firearms into a State correctional institution if all
of the following apply:

(1) The corrections officer provides notice to the chief
administrator of the officer's intent to carry a personal
firearm into the State correctional institution.
(2) The corrections officer receives confirmation by the
chief administrator that the chief administrator received the
notice under paragraph (1) before the officer carries the
personal firearm into the State correctional institution.
(3) The corrections officer is licensed to carry the
personal firearm and has proof of ownership of the personal
firearm.
(4) Upon entering into the State correctional
institution, the corrections officer's personal firearm is
stored in a secure storage unit provided under subsection
(a).
(5) Upon exiting the State correctional institution, the
corrections officer's personal firearm is removed from the
secure storage unit provided under subsection (a) and the
corrections officer carries the firearm off the grounds of
the State correctional institution.
Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
