AN ACT
Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
act relating to the public school system, including certain
provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
laws relating thereto," in preliminary provisions, further
providing for Keystone Exams.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Section 121 of the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30,
No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949, is amended by
adding subsections to read:
Section 121. Keystone Exams.--* * *
(c) Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the
contrary, no child may be required to take a Keystone Exam if
the parent or guardian of the child notifies in writing the
superintendent or chief administrator that the parent or
guardian wishes for the child not to take the Keystone Exam.
(d) No student may be penalized by a school district, the
State Board of Education or the Commonwealth for failing to take

a Keystone Exam if the parent or guardian of the child has
provided notice under subsection (b).
(e) No student may be required to take a Keystone Exam as a
condition for high school graduation.
Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
