A RESOLUTION
Commending the Boeing Company, an outstanding corporate citizen
in this Commonwealth, and offering deepest admiration and
appreciation on the momentous occasion of the Boeing
Company's 100th anniversary.
WHEREAS, Founded by William Boeing in 1916, the Boeing
Company has become a leader in the commercial and military
aerospace industries, setting standards of excellence in science
and technology; and
WHEREAS, In its 100-year history, Boeing has been responsible
for innovations in passenger airplanes, military aircraft,
missiles, satellites and spacecraft, and the company has helped
the United States and the world cross frontier after frontier in
aerospace technologies; and
WHEREAS, Boeing built the B-17 Flying Fortress, which helped
secure victory in World War II, the Douglas DC-3, which was the
first widely used passenger airplane, the iconic B-52
Stratofortress, which was used by the United States military for
60 years, and the 707 and 747, which launched the jetliner era;

WHEREAS, Every American spacecraft that has carried
astronauts into space was designed and built by companies that
are now part of Boeing; and
WHEREAS, As a key component of both commercial aerospace
operations and national defense, Boeing employs more than 4,800
individuals at locations in Pennsylvania and indirectly supports
thousands of additional jobs; and
WHEREAS, For more than 50 years, Boeing Philadelphia has
produced the H-47 Chinook for the United States Army and its
allies and the V-22 Osprey tiltrotor for the United States
Marine Corps and United States Air Force; and
WHEREAS, Boeing has succeeded thanks to the hard work and
tireless dedication of countless employees, many of whom have
been active leaders in their communities; and
WHEREAS, Boeing launched a traveling exhibition on the
history of flight called "Above and Beyond" and released a
centennial history book in 2015 called Higher: 100 Years of
Boeing; and
WHEREAS, Boeing is commemorating its 100th anniversary with a
Founders Day Celebration on July 15, 2016, as well as events
throughout the year; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate commend the Boeing Company, an
outstanding corporate citizen in this Commonwealth, and offer
its deepest admiration and appreciation on the momentous
occasion of the Boeing Company's 100th anniversary.
