A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of September 2015 as "Ovarian Cancer
Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Ovarian cancer is the ninth most common cancer among
women and the fifth leading cause of cancer death among women;
and
WHEREAS, Approximately 21,980 women are diagnosed with
ovarian cancer each year and more than 14,000 women in the
United States die from ovarian cancer each year; and
WHEREAS, No adequate screening test exists for ovarian
cancer; and
WHEREAS, Most cases of ovarian cancer are diagnosed at Stage
III or later when the cancer already has begun to spread to
lymph nodes and outside of the pelvis; and
WHEREAS, Early detection improves the chances of survival,
with a 93% five-year survival rate if detected at the earliest
stages; and
