AN ACT
Requiring the preparation and publication of information
relating to the influenza vaccine for individuals residing in
assisted living residences; and imposing duties on the
Department of Health.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Short title.
This act shall be known and may be cited as the Influenza
Awareness Act.
Section 2. Definitions.
The following words and phrases when used in this act shall
have the meanings given to them in this section unless the
context clearly indicates otherwise:
"Assisted living residence." The term as defined under 55
Pa. Code ยง 2800.4 (relating to definitions).
"Department." The Department of Health of the Commonwealth.
Section 3. Influenza vaccine information.
(a) General rule.--The department shall:
(1) Prepare and publish information relating to the

influenza vaccine for individuals residing in assisted living
residences.
(2) Require each assisted living residence in this
Commonwealth to:
(i) post the information in a public place in the
facility by August 1 of each year; and
(ii) provide the information to each resident within
a reasonable time and without cost.
(b) Information required.--The information relating to the
influenza vaccine for individuals residing in assisted living
residences required under this section shall include:
(1) How vaccination can help prevent influenza.
(2) The availability and efficacy of the influenza
vaccine.
(3) A recommendation that individuals consult with their
physicians about the influenza vaccine.
(4) The particular individual and community benefits of
vaccination.
Section 4. Effective date.
This act shall take effect in 60 days.
