AN ACT
Designating a bridge on that portion of State Route 982 over the
Loyalhanna Creek, Westmoreland County, as the Lance Corporal
Joseph E. Roble Memorial Bridge.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Lance Corporal Joseph E. Roble Memorial Bridge.
(a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as
follows:
(1) Lance Corporal Joseph E. Roble was a native of
Latrobe, Westmoreland County.
(2) On September 16, 1968, Lance Corporal Roble
courageously gave his life while serving his country in the
vicinity of Quang Tri Province, Republic of Vietnam as an M79
grenadier with the 3rd Platoon, Company E, 2nd Battalion,
26th Marines, 9th Marine Amphibious Brigade. Lance Corporal
Roble, without hesitation or regard for his personal safety,
rushed into enemy fire to assist fellow wounded Marines and
protect them from further harm. He continued to engage the
enemy, repeatedly exposing himself to small arms fire and

grenades.
(3) Lance Corporal Roble was posthumously awarded the
Bronze Star in recognition of his courageous actions,
initiative and total dedication to duty.
(b) Designation.--The bridge located on State Route 982 in
Westmoreland County over the Loyalhanna Creek is hereby
designated the Lance Corporal Joseph E. Roble Memorial Bridge.
(c) Signs.–-The Department of Transportation shall erect and
maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to
traffic in both directions on the bridge.
Section 2. Effective date.
This act shall take effect in 60 days.
