AN ACT
Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
Statutes, in operation of vehicles, further providing for
drivers of emergency vehicles.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Section 3105(f) of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
Consolidated Statutes is amended and the section is amended by
adding a subsection to read:
ยง 3105. Drivers of emergency vehicles.

(f) Pedalcycles.--No part of this section shall be construed
to restrict the operation of a pedalcycle used by a police
officer or a bike medic during the course of performing official
duties.

(i) Definition.--As used in this section, the term "bike
medic" means an individual who:

(1) operates a pedalcycle that is equipped to provide
medical, rescue or disaster services in response to a medical
emergency or traumatic injury or in search and rescue
operations conducted by the individual; AND IS CERTIFIED BY
THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AS AN EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES
PROVIDER;
(2) is a member of an emergency medical service provider
recognized SERVICES AGENCY LICENSED by the Department of
Health AND OPERATING WITHIN THE SCOPE OF PRACTICE OF AN
EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES PROVIDER, AS APPLICABLE ;
(3) has attained the minimum certification of first
responder or emergency medical technician;
(4) (3) has successfully completed a basic emergency
medical services cycling program administered and approved by
a nationally recognized organization or certifying body THE
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH ;
(5) wears a distinctive uniform; and
(4) WEARS EMERGENCY FIRST RESPONDER APPROPRIATE ATTIRE
FOR OPERATING UPON THE HIGHWAYS IN ACCORDANCE WITH NATIONAL
STANDARDS; AND
(6) (5) makes use of an appropriate visual and audible
warning device in the performance of official duties during
the response or search and rescue operations .
Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
