A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of October 17 through 21, 2016, as
"National Medical Assistants Recognition Week" in
Pennsylvania in recognition of the quality care, support and
vital services provided by medical assistants in this
Commonwealth.
WHEREAS, The health of all Pennsylvanians depends upon
educated minds and trained hands; and
WHEREAS, The practice of modern medicine at the exacting
standards that society now enjoys and expects would become
impossible to achieve and maintain without the clinical and
administrative duties performed daily in physicians' offices,
clinics, laboratories and hospitals; and
WHEREAS, In the specialized world of health care, medical
assistants stand out as versatile professionals who operate as
multiskilled practitioners and perform a wide range of roles in
physicians' offices and other health care settings; and
WHEREAS, Medical assistants must work proficiently at a
multitude of administrative and clinical tasks; and
WHEREAS, Doctors view medical assistants as vital partners

who increase medical office productivity and provide efficient
and caring service to all patients; and
WHEREAS, Medical assistants may demonstrate their knowledge
and commitment to professionalism by earning the Certified
Medical Assistant (CMA) credential offered by the American
Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or the Registered
Medical Assistant credential offered by American Medical
Technologists (AMT); and
WHEREAS, Candidates who earn a CMA credential have
successfully completed a certification examination administered
by the certifying board of the AAMA and enjoy increased respect
and recognition from their professional peers and employers; and
WHEREAS, The examination tests general medical knowledge,
including terminology, anatomy, physiology, behavioral science,
medical law and ethics; administrative knowledge, including
medical records management, collections and insurance
processing; and clinical knowledge, including examination room
techniques, medication preparation and administration,
pharmacology and specimen collection; and
WHEREAS, In this Commonwealth, the Pennsylvania Society of
Medical Assistants (PSMA) may assist medical assistants from
across this Commonwealth and is an affiliate of the AAMA; and
WHEREAS, As an affiliate, the PSMA works to provide medical
assistant professionals with education, certification,
credential acknowledgment, networking opportunities, scope-of-
practice protection and advocacy for quality patient-centered
health care; and
WHEREAS, Both the AAMA and the AMT recognize the week of
October 17 through 21, 2016, as "Medical Assistants Recognition
Week"; and

WHEREAS, The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics reports
that over 26,000 Pennsylvanians work as medical assistants in
this Commonwealth, forming an important part of the medical and
general labor force; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
week of October 17 through 21, 2016, as "National Medical
Assistants Recognition Week" in Pennsylvania in recognition of
the quality care, support and vital services provided by medical
assistants in this Commonwealth; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
important service provided to the profession in this
Commonwealth by the Pennsylvania Society of Medical Assistants,
as well as the American Association of Medical Assistants and
American Medical Technologists; and be it further
RESOLVED, That members of the House of Representatives take
initiative to recognize local medical assistants working in
their communities for the important assistance they provide in
helping to heal and care for patients.
