WHEREAS, Medical assistants may demonstrate their knowledge
and commitment to professionalism by earning the Certified
Medical Assistant (CMA) credential offered by the American
Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or the Registered
Medical Assistant credential offered by American Medical
Technologists (AMT); and
WHEREAS, Candidates who earn a CMA credential have
successfully completed a certification examination administered
by the certifying board of the AAMA and enjoy increased respect
and recognition from their professional peers and employers; and
WHEREAS, The examination tests general medical knowledge,
including terminology, anatomy, physiology, behavioral science,
medical law and ethics; administrative knowledge, including
medical records management, collections and insurance
processing; and clinical knowledge, including examination room
techniques, medication preparation and administration,
pharmacology and specimen collection; and
WHEREAS, In this Commonwealth, the Pennsylvania Society of
Medical Assistants (PSMA) may assist medical assistants from
across this Commonwealth and is an affiliate of the AAMA; and
WHEREAS, As an affiliate, the PSMA works to provide medical
assistant professionals with education, certification,
credential acknowledgment, networking opportunities, scope-of-
practice protection and advocacy for quality patient-centered
health care; and
WHEREAS, Both the AAMA and the AMT recognize the week of
October 17 through 21, 2016, as "Medical Assistants Recognition
Week"; and
