A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of September 2016 as "Sepsis Awareness
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Sepsis, commonly called "blood poisoning," is the
body's overwhelming and life-threatening response to infection
which may lead to tissue damage, organ failure and death; and
WHEREAS, Physicians draw from a list of symptoms in order to
make a diagnosis of sepsis, including abnormalities of body
temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and white blood cell
count; and
WHEREAS, Sepsis may be caused by an infection, usually
associated with an illness such as diabetes or cancer, or an
injury such as a cut or a scrape; and
WHEREAS, This medical condition may be caused by an infection
following routine surgery or a medical procedure; and
WHEREAS, Sepsis kills approximately 258,000 Americans
