A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of September 26 through October 2, 2016, as
"Prehospital Services Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, In an emergency, often the first contact with
individuals involves paramedics and emergency medical
technicians who make critical decisions in situations where
every second counts; and
WHEREAS, Prehospital services are an essential component of
emergency treatment for individuals who have a medical
emergency, are a victim of a mass casualty event or have been in
an accident and need transportation to the hospital by
ambulance, helicopter or other means of transportation; and
WHEREAS, Prehospital services personnel provide lifesaving
care to patients outside of a hospital setting and during
transport to a hospital; and
WHEREAS, Prehospital services may include the provision of
anti-overdose medications, transmission of an electrocardiogram
to the hospital or even follow-up care after the patient is
released from the hospital; and

WHEREAS, Prehospital services can be provided by different
groups and are coordinated with other organizations involved
with emergency services to ensure the patient receives the best
and most appropriate care possible; and
WHEREAS, This year marks the 30th anniversary of the
Evangelical Community Hospital Pre-Hospital Services, which
operates in Lycoming, Northumberland, Snyder and Union counties;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
week of September 26 through October 2, 2016, as "Prehospital
Services Week" in Pennsylvania.
