SEPTEMBER 21, 2016
A RESOLUTION
Designating October 2, 2016, as "Pulaski Day" and the month of
October 2016 as "Polish American Heritage Month" in
Pennsylvania, commemorating the 237th anniversary of
Brigadier General Casimir Pulaski's death and recognizing the
important contributions of Polish Americans to this nation's
history, and extending best wishes to the Polish American
community in the City of Philadelphia on the 83rd anniversary
of the Pulaski Day Parade.
WHEREAS, Polish people have contributed greatly to the
history of this nation; and
WHEREAS, The first Polish people settled in America in 1608;
and
WHEREAS, Casimir Pulaski, born March 6, 1745, in Warsaw,
Poland, who was Brigadier General of the Cavalry of the
Continental Army during the American Revolution, earned the
title of "Father of the American Cavalry" and proved himself to
be a brilliant tactician and leader; and
WHEREAS, In October 1779, Brigadier General Pulaski was

mortally wounded while courageously leading a charge behind the
French line of infantry to break the British defense in the
siege of Savannah, Georgia; and
WHEREAS, Brigadier General Pulaski's lifework and ideals are
a source of strength and pride to Americans of Polish ancestry
and reflect the customs and culture of the Polish people; and
WHEREAS, This year marks the 237th anniversary of the death
of Brigadier General Pulaski, the 408th anniversary of the
arrival of the first Polish settlers in America and the 1,050th
anniversary of the documented history of Poland, which began in
A.D. 966; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate October
2, 2016, as "Pulaski Day" and the month of October 2016 as
"Polish American Heritage Month" in Pennsylvania commemorating
the 237th anniversary of Brigadier General Pulaski's death and
recognizing the important contributions of Polish Americans to
our nation's history; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives extend best
wishes to the Polish American community in the City of
Philadelphia on the 83rd anniversary of the Pulaski Day Parade.
