A RESOLUTION
Designating the week of September 11 through 17, 2016, as
"Assisted Living Week" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Residents of assisted living residences are active
members of the larger community, offering their wisdom, life
experiences and skills; and
WHEREAS, The residents' past contributions continue to be a
vital part of the Commonwealth's rich history and their future
contributions deepen our State's identity; and
WHEREAS, Assisted living is a critical part of the long-term
care services and supports system which allows for older adults
to have personal choice, dignity and independence; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is home to 38 licensed assisted living
residences which are committed to excellence, innovation and the
advancement of person-centered care; and

WHEREAS, The National Center for Assisted Living created
"National Assisted Living Week" to demonstrate our nation's
appreciation of the unique individuals who reside in assisted
living residences and the exemplary staff and volunteers who
deliver the residents' care every day; and
WHEREAS, The theme of "National Assisted Living Week" for
2016 is "Keep Connected," which encourages assisted living
communities to support opportunities for residents to take
advantage of the latest communication tools to engage with the
world around them; and
WHEREAS, According to Pew Research Center, social media usage
among those 65 years of age and older has more than tripled
since 2010; and
WHEREAS, This year's "National Assisted Living Week" theme
aims to help overcome the myth that older adults lack interest
in using or the ability to learn new technologies; and
WHEREAS, "Keep Connected" acknowledges the myriad of ways
assisted living staff and supporting business partners are
revolutionizing person-centered care by implementing innovative
technologies in these communities; and
WHEREAS, Assisted living residences are an integral part of
the larger community and local economy; and
WHEREAS, Staff cultivate connections with families, business
owners, government organizations, community organizers and
others to ensure the residents remain an active part of where
they call home; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
week of September 11 through 17, 2016, as "Assisted Living Week"
in Pennsylvania and urge all residents of this Commonwealth to
volunteer and keep connected, visit loved ones and friends who
