A RESOLUTION
Designating July 28, 2016, as "Hail to Pitt Day" in Pennsylvania
in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the University of
Pittsburgh becoming a State-related university.
WHEREAS, On July 28, 1966, Governor William W. Scranton
signed the bill establishing the University of Pittsburgh as a
State-related university; and
WHEREAS, The University of Pittsburgh's 34,826 students are
among Pennsylvania's best and brightest, coming from the top of
their classes, performing groundbreaking research and providing
thousands of hours of service to the community; and
WHEREAS, The University of Pittsburgh is a major economic
driver for this Commonwealth, employing more than 13,000 people,
supporting more than 33,800 jobs and generating a Statewide
economic impact of $3.7 billion; and
WHEREAS, For each dollar invested in the University of
Pittsburgh, this Commonwealth receives a $25 return on the
investment; and
WHEREAS, The University of Pittsburgh is a driving force of
