A RESOLUTION
Designating June 18, 2016, as "Volunteer Youth Athletic Coaches'
Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Thousands of men and women across this Commonwealth
volunteer their time to coach youth sports at night and on
weekends throughout the sports season and sometimes even all
year round; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer youth athletic coaches help teach children
on their sports teams not only the sports they are playing, but
life skills, such as teamwork, sportsmanship and discipline; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer youth athletic coaches serve as mentors to
children and can build relationships that last a lifetime; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer youth athletic coaches can become parental
figures for children in need of parental guidance; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer youth athletic coaches help children
experience teachable moments which can help shape their life

values for the future, such as making the last out of a baseball
game, congratulating a teammate who scored a winning touchdown
or consoling a teammate who allowed a winning goal; and
WHEREAS, No matter which sport or coaching level, volunteer
youth athletic coaches should be recognized for the hard work
they do and for the unpaid hours they put in to make learning
and playing sports fun for the children of this Commonwealth;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate June
18, 2016, as "Volunteer Youth Athletic Coaches' Day" in
Pennsylvania and urge the residents of this Commonwealth to
honor and thank the volunteer youth athletic coaches in their
communities for their time, dedication and hard work mentoring
the children of this Commonwealth.
