A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of June 2016 as "Adopt a Cat Month" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The American Humane Association and other
organizations devoted to animal welfare acknowledge that
thousands of newborn kittens join the millions of cats in animal
shelters nationwide each spring; and
WHEREAS, Shelters, animal control facilities, animal rescue
organizations, veterinarians, philanthropists and donors as well
as potential adopters all have a stake in finding good homes for
these animals; and
WHEREAS, Of the estimated 3.4 million cats entering animal
shelters nationwide each year, 1.3 million are adopted and 1.4
million are euthanized; and
WHEREAS, Approximately 42.9 million homes in the United
States have at least one cat; and
WHEREAS, When considering adoption, all persons living in a

home should participate in the shelter visit; and
WHEREAS, When a pet is given as a gift, the recipient should
participate in the adoption process; and
WHEREAS, All pets living in a home should be properly
introduced and socialized; and
WHEREAS, Appropriate veterinary care is essential; and
WHEREAS, Bonding with companion animals has long provided
valuable physiological, psychological and social benefits for
animal owners and caregivers; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
month of June 2016 as "Adopt a Cat Month" in Pennsylvania.
