A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the 100th anniversary of Edgely Fire Company 1,
which proudly serves the residents and businesses of Bristol
Township in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Edgely Fire Company 1 was originally known as the
Headley Manor Fire Company in 1908 and was incorporated in 1915;
and
WHEREAS, Edgely Fire Company's original firehouse was located
on Grieb Avenue in Levittown and the chief during this time was
James Kerr; and
WHEREAS, On April 24, 1949, the fire company changed its name
to Edgely Fire Company 1, and later that year the company
dedicated a new firehouse located at 1301 Edgely Avenue in
Levittown, with Fred Hibbs serving as the chief; and
WHEREAS, In 1970 the fire company dedicated a new modern
station at 1200 Edgely Avenue in Levittown that could house up

to eight pieces of firefighting apparatus, and this location
serves as the firehouse today; and
WHEREAS, John Doster was chief at the time of the firehouse
dedication, the position he held for 21 years; and
WHEREAS, The crew from Edgely Fire Company 1 was recently
honored by Bristol Township for its role in a four-day mission
to save and recover the body of Anthony Gabriele, killed when a
silo he was working in collapsed; and
WHEREAS, Edgely Fire Company 1 was the first to respond to
the scene, where their level of compassion, selflessness and
tireless determination was noted by Fire Marshal Kevin
Dippolito; and
WHEREAS, The members of the company were on site the entire
four days of the mission, their actions in keeping with the
highest traditions of first responders; and
WHEREAS, Edgely Fire Company 1 continues to proudly serve the
residents and businesses of Bristol Township in Bucks County,
with a department of 35 active members, including 20 honorary
life members; and
WHEREAS, The current and 16th chief of Edgely Fire Company 1
is Carl Pierce, who has been an active member of the department
for over 20 years and is currently in his fifth year as chief of
the department where he formerly served as deputy chief,
assistant chief, captain and lieutenant; and
WHEREAS, During the 100th anniversary banquet celebration
being held Saturday, April 30, 2016, Chief Carl Pierce will be
honored and recognized as an honorary life member of the fire
company; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
100th anniversary of Edgely Fire Company 1 for its commitment to

the residents and businesses of Bristol Township in Bucks
County, Pennsylvania, and honor its members for their continued
selflessness and valor in the line of duty.
