A RESOLUTION
Designating Tuesday, May 17, 2016, as "Pennsylvania Health Care
Information Technology Awareness Day."
WHEREAS, Health care costs represent 17.4% of gross domestic
product nationally; and
WHEREAS, Seventy percent of health care transactions are
paper-based processes; and
WHEREAS, The health care industry invests only 5% of revenue
on information technology and management systems versus 10.5% of
other data-intensive industries such as banking; and
WHEREAS, The United States spends more than $2.9 trillion on
health care each year, yet some of that spending is unnecessary
and spent on clinical and administrative waste, theft and excess
costs; and
WHEREAS, Spending on health care has risen more than 40% in
the last decade; and
