A RESOLUTION
Recognizing six schools in the Pennsbury School District in
Bucks County for their selection as State Schools of
Character for 2016.
WHEREAS, Six schools were selected as State Schools of
Character for 2016 by the Pennsylvania affiliate of
Character.org, a national advocate and leader for the character
education movement in schools; and
WHEREAS, The six schools selected as State Schools of
Character for 2016 include Pennsbury High School, Eleanor
Roosevelt Elementary School, Makefield Elementary School, Manor
Elementary School, Penn Valley Elementary School and Walt Disney
Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, As a result of selection as a State School of
Character, each of these six schools will be considered by
Character.org for national recognition as a National School of
Character; and

WHEREAS, The State Schools and Districts of Character program
recognizes excellence and growth in the area of student
character development through the application of the 11
Principles of Effective Character Education; and
WHEREAS, These principles are utilized as a guide for
educators and community leaders who serve as role models in
positively shaping the social, emotional and character
development of students, including their work relating to
curriculum integration, parent and community partnerships,
extra-curricular activities and staff development; and
WHEREAS, These dedicated professionals seek to create a
"culture of caring" in which students feel safe, respected and
connected to those around them, are allowed to thrive
academically and socially and are inspired and empowered to be
ethical and engaged citizens who are motivated to contribute to
their communities; and
WHEREAS, In 2015, seven Pennsbury Schools were recognized as
State Schools of Character and National Schools of Character,
including the Afton, Edgewood, Fallsington, Oxford Valley and
Quarry Hill Elementary Schools and the Pennwood and William Penn
Middle Schools; and
WHEREAS, In 2015, the Pennsbury School District was selected
by Character.org as a State School District of Character and as
a National School District of Character; and
WHEREAS, In 2014, the Charles Boehm Middle School in the
Pennsbury School District was selected as a State School of
Character and as a National School of Character; and
WHEREAS, In addition, each Pennsbury School District school
named in 2014 and 2015 was recognized as a National School of
Character during the first year of application, which

recognition is an unprecedented accomplishment in the history of
Character.org; and
WHEREAS, What this devoted team of Pennsbury School District
leaders has accomplished is unprecedented in the history of
Character.org for the reason that every school in the district
and the district as a whole has achieved State School of
Character status in only three years; and
WHEREAS, The bestowal of these multiple awards upon the
Pennsbury School District is an affirmation that the district's
administrators and teachers are fulfilling their mission to
increase student achievement and positively influence the
character development of all students; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
administrators, teachers and students in the Pennsbury High
School, Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary School, Makefield
Elementary School, Manor Elementary School, Penn Valley
Elementary School and Walt Disney Elementary School in the
Pennsbury School District in Bucks County for their
contributions leading to their schools' selection as a State
School of Character for 2016 by Character.org; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend the
Pennsbury School District's team of leaders for their commitment
to character education for every student in the school district,
which led to each school in the district being selected as a
State School of Character, and to the Pennsbury School District
being selected as a State School District of Character.
