A RESOLUTION
Honoring the legacy of Hannah Callowhill Penn, and designating
March 12, 2016, as "Hannah Callowhill Penn Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Hannah Callowhill Penn was born in Bristol, England,
on February 11, 1671; and
WHEREAS, On March 5, 1696, she married William Penn, founder
of the Province of Pennsylvania, and the couple arrived in
Philadelphia on December 10, 1699; and
WHEREAS, William Penn and Hannah Callowhill Penn resided at
Pennsbury Manor in Morrisville; and
WHEREAS, Both Hannah Callowhill Penn and William Penn made
remarkable contributions to this Commonwealth and to the
founding of our nation and were lifelong advocates of peace and
justice; and
WHEREAS, When William Penn became incapacitated by a stroke
