A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising in
Ireland.
WHEREAS, The Easter Rising was an armed rebellion against
British rule on the island of Ireland that took place April 24
through 29, 1916; and
WHEREAS, On the morning of Easter Monday, volunteer troops
along with the Irish Citizen Army set out to occupy buildings in
central Dublin, including the General Post Office, the Four
Courts and the South Dublin Union; and
WHEREAS, These buildings were captured, reinforced and used
as the rebels' headquarters and the seat of their provisional
government; and
WHEREAS, Despite the initial advantages of the element of
surprise and greater numbers of troops, the rebels were
ultimately defeated by the British forces; and
