A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and honoring the service, leadership and courage of
Brigadier General Charles R. Hamilton of the City of
Philadelphia during "Black History Month 2016."
WHEREAS, After enlisting in the United States Army and
completing basic and individual training, Brigadier General
Charles R. Hamilton of Houston, Texas, was first assigned to
Fort Hood, Texas; and
WHEREAS, In February 1988, he graduated from Officer
Candidate School as the Distinguished Military Graduate and was
commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps; and
WHEREAS, His education includes a bachelor of science degree
in business administration from Virginia State University, a
master's degree in public administration from Central Michigan
University and a second master's degree in military studies from
Marine Corps University; and

WHEREAS, His military education includes Senior Service
College as a 2012 Office of the Secretary of Defense Corporate
Fellow, the Marine Command and Staff and the Joint Forces Staff
College, the Quartermaster Officer Basic and Advanced Course,
the Combined Arms and Services Staff School and the Airborne,
Air Assault and Rigger School; and
WHEREAS, His long and notable military career has included
overseas assignments in Korea and Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, Brigadier General Charles R. Hamilton was most
recently assigned as the Executive Officer to the Army Deputy
Chief of Staff, G-4; and
WHEREAS, His awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star
Medal (2nd Awd), Defense Meritorious Service Medal (3rd Awd),
Meritorious Service Medal (9 OLC), Joint Service Commendation
Medal (2nd Awd), Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Joint Service
Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (5 OLC), Good Conduct
Medal (2 Awds), Operation Enduring Freedom Campaign Awards, the
Army, Joint Staff Badges and the Combat Action Badge; and
WHEREAS, On July 13, 2015, Brigadier General Charles R.
Hamilton assumed command of Defense Logistics Agency Troop
Support at the Philadelphia Navy Yard where he oversees a global
work force of approximately 2,900 civilian and military
personnel; and
WHEREAS, Brigadier General Charles R. Hamilton's military
service continues the proud and longstanding tradition of
African-American contributions to the military which has carried
on since the American Revolutionary War; and
WHEREAS, Brigadier General Charles R. Hamilton's position
highlights the Philadelphia Navy Yard's established history of
elevating and furthering African-American employment during

times of discrimination and inequality in the work force;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize and
honor the service, leadership and courage of Army Brigadier
General Charles R. Hamilton of the City of Philadelphia during
"Black History Month 2016."
