A RESOLUTION
Honoring Ke'Arre Stewart, Jennifer Markovsky and Garrett Swasey,
who lost their lives during the shooting at the Planned
Parenthood center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on November
27, 2015, and extending condolences to the families and
friends of the victims during their time of mourning.
WHEREAS, A tragic shooting occurred at the Planned Parenthood
center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on the morning of November
27, 2015; and
WHEREAS, An armed male, Robert Lewis Dear, opened fire,
taking the lives of two civilians and one law enforcement
officer and also wounding nine individuals; and
WHEREAS, The individuals that lost their lives in the
shooting were Mr. Ke'Arre Stewart, Ms. Jennifer Markovsky and
Officer Garrett Swasey; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Stewart, 29 years of age and a father of two
children, was an Army veteran who served in Iraq; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Markovsky, 36 years of age and a mother of two

children, grew up in Hawaii before moving with her husband to
Colorado; and
WHEREAS, Officer Swasey, 44 years of age, a six-year police
veteran of the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs Campus,
was also a co-pastor at Hope Chapel, an evangelical church; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his service in the community, Officer
Swasey was a former nationally ranked figure skater who moved
from Massachusetts to Colorado Springs to train at the Olympic
Training Center in the 1990s; and
WHEREAS, Officer Swasey, who is survived by his wife of 17
years and two children, rushed 10 miles to support Colorado
Springs Police under fire at Planned Parenthood; and
WHEREAS, During a memorial service, Mrs. Rachel Swasey shared
that faith was the focus of her husband's life and that her
husband, the love of her life, gave his life without regret;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor Ke'Arre
Stewart, Jennifer Markovsky and Garrett Swasey, who lost their
lives during the shooting at the Planned Parenthood center in
Colorado Springs, Colorado, on November 27, 2015; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives extend its
deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims
during their time of mourning.
