A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of January 2016 as "Glaucoma Awareness
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Healthy vision is critical to the overall health and
well-being of individuals and the completion of daily functions;
and
WHEREAS, Glaucoma is a leading cause of vision loss and
irreversible blindness in the United States, affecting more than
3 million people; and
WHEREAS, People 40 years of age and older are more likely to
be affected by glaucoma, but people of any age are susceptible
to glaucoma and its ill effects; and
WHEREAS, Glaucoma is the leading cause of preventable
blindness, accounting for approximately 120,000 cases of
blindness in the United States; and
