INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
DECEMBER 19, 2015
A RESOLUTION
Honoring the lives and memory of those tragically killed and
those injured during the mass shooting at the Inland Regional
Center building in San Bernardino, California, on December 2,
2015, and expressing gratitude to all emergency workers,
first responders and volunteers for their efforts.
WHEREAS, Fourteen people tragically died in the workplace on
December 2, 2015, in a mass shooting at a government building in
San Bernardino, California; and
WHEREAS, A number of other individuals in the building at the
time were wounded during the incident and are now recovering;
and
WHEREAS, Ten of the fourteen people who were shot and killed
were public employees of San Bernardino County and members of
Local 721 of the Service Employees International Union; and
WHEREAS, The other individuals killed were also San

Bernardino County employees or private citizens working in or
visiting the building; and
WHEREAS, The sudden and violent deaths of these individuals
in their workplace is shocking and difficult to comprehend; and
WHEREAS, An individual's workplace, whether public or
nonpublic, should always be a safe place; and
WHEREAS, Public employees assume some risk every day when
they are performing their appointed duties, such as working in
law enforcement, working in a traffic zone, working in
construction areas, responding to fire and medical emergencies
and scores of other jobs; and
WHEREAS, Providing individuals with government services and
assistance can bring inherent risks for public employees; and
WHEREAS, It is our collective duty to strive to provide the
most secure and safe workplaces possible; and
WHEREAS, The quick work of law enforcement personnel, first
responders, emergency personnel and fire safety personnel in San
Bernardino, California, and surrounding areas quickly contained
the incident and assured the safety of residents; therefore be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor and
memorialize the lives of those killed and injured on December 2,
2015, in San Bernardino, California; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives express gratitude
to the law enforcement personnel, first responders, emergency
personnel and fire safety personnel in San Bernardino,
California, and surrounding areas for their efforts during the
tragic events of December 2, 2015.
