INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
NOVEMBER 9, 2015
A RESOLUTION
Designating November 17, 2015, as "ROHHAD Awareness Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, ROHHAD syndrome, also known as rapid-onset obesity
with hypothalamic dysfunction, hypoventilation and autonomic
dysregulation is a very rare disease that affects the autonomic
nervous system and endocrine system; and
WHEREAS, The syndrome results in dramatic weight gain over a
6-month to 12-month period in the first 10 years of life,
followed by alveolar hypoventilation, hypothalamic dysfunction
and dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system; and
WHEREAS, Children diagnosed with this disorder suffer from a
myriad of issues, including, but not limited to, respiratory
problems that can result in respiratory arrest, weight gain,
stomach ailments, eye problems, cardiac issues and seizure
activity; and

WHEREAS, Most of the children diagnosed with ROHHAD syndrome
also have a neutral crest tumor known as a ganglioneuroblastoma;
and
WHEREAS, This syndrome is rare, life threatening and life
altering and has no known cure; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate
November 17, 2015, as "ROHHAD Awareness Day" in Pennsylvania in
order to raise awareness regarding this rare syndrome in the
hope that someday a cure will be found.
