A RESOLUTION
Designating September 21, 2015, as "Women In Bio Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Women In Bio is a national organization of
professionals committed to promoting careers, leadership and
entrepreneurship for women in the life sciences; and
WHEREAS, The Pittsburgh chapter of Women In Bio (Women In
Bio-Pittsburgh) was formed in 2012 by founding members Lynn
Brusco, Babs Carryer, Dottie Clower, Lidiya Orlichenko and Pat
Rogan; and
WHEREAS, Women In Bio-Pittsburgh is a nonprofit organization
working to support recognized and emerging women leaders in the
life sciences of western Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio and West
Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Women In Bio-Pittsburgh's mission is to promote

entrepreneurship, innovation, education and mentorship among
women across the region by providing programming and networking
opportunities; and
WHEREAS, Women In Bio-Pittsburgh is committed to increasing
the impact of local women on the growth of the region by
supporting their careers and professional development in the
life sciences; and
WHEREAS, On September 21, 2015, Women In Bio-Pittsburgh will
hold its second annual Pittsburgh's Outstanding Women
Entrepreneurs Rally (P.O.W.E.R.); and
WHEREAS, P.O.W.E.R. 2015 will highlight the impact women have
made in revolutionizing health care; and
WHEREAS, Individualized diagnostic tools, innovative medical
devices and self-monitoring tools are disrupting health care in
ways never before imagined and many women entrepreneurs are on
the leading edge of this revolution; and
WHEREAS, Women in Bio-Pittsburgh will present the first ever
P.O.W.E.R. Award recognizing a Pittsburgh woman entrepreneur who
has helped to shape this evolving landscape of health care; and
WHEREAS, The 2015 P.O.W.E.R. Award will be presented to
Dottie Clower, Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer of Cohera, who
has excelled as a Pittsburgh entrepreneur by successfully
orchestrating a medical idea from concept to development,
complete with full United States Food and Drug Administration
approval; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate
September 21, 2015, as "Women In Bio Day" in Pennsylvania.
