A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the 35th anniversary of the Mazzoni Center and
honoring its dedication to providing quality health and
wellness services to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender
individuals in the greater Philadelphia area.
WHEREAS, Founded in 1979, the Mazzoni Center is the oldest
AIDS service organization in this Commonwealth and the fourth
oldest in the nation; and
WHEREAS, The Mazzoni Center is the only health care provider
in the Philadelphia region specifically targeting the unique
health care needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender
(LGBT) communities; and
WHEREAS, For more than 35 years, the Mazzoni Center has
provided quality comprehensive health and wellness services in
an LGBT focused environment, while preserving the dignity and
improving the quality of life of the individuals served; and
WHEREAS, In 2003, the former Philadelphia Community Health
Alternatives changed its name to the Mazzoni Center to honor the

late Dr. Peter Mazzoni, a longtime volunteer and board member;
and
WHEREAS, Serving 30,000 individuals annually, the Mazzoni
Center is a leader among community-based organizations in the
greater Philadelphia area; and
WHEREAS, The Mazzoni Center has a reputation for excellence
and innovation in service delivery to its constituents; and
WHEREAS, The Mazzoni Center offers a full array of primary
health care services, mental and behavioral health services and
LGBT legal services; and
WHEREAS, The Mazzoni Center's services include HIV and STD
testing, a food bank, housing subsidies for families and
individuals affected by HIV, support groups and outreach and
education programs; and
WHEREAS, The Mazzoni Center was recognized by the Human
Rights Campaign as a leader in health care equality in 2014 for
the third year in a row; and
WHEREAS, After 35 years, the Mazzoni Center continues to
thrive as the home of health and well-being for LGBT
Philadelphians and others in the community; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
35th anniversary of the Mazzoni Center and honor the center's
dedication to providing quality health and wellness services to
lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals in the
greater Philadelphia area.
