A RESOLUTION
Honoring and remembering the five fallen service members who
were killed or mortally wounded during a mass shooting at a
joint Navy and Marine Corps facility in Chattanooga,
Tennessee, on July 16, 2015.
WHEREAS, Service members, including 20 Marines and 2 Navy
corpsmen, under attack at the Navy Operational Support Center
and Marine Corps Reserve Center alerted and shielded others in
the rush out of the compound; and
WHEREAS, While most of those service members were unarmed,
two of the fallen are believed to have separately engaged and
fired on the shooter; and
WHEREAS, Four Marines who died in the attack were members of

Mike Battery, 3rd Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment, 4th Marine
Division, Marine Forces Reserve; and
WHEREAS, The Marines of Mike Battery, a reserve artillery
unit, had recently completed a two-week training mission in the
Mojave Desert; and
WHEREAS, Marine Staff Sergeant David A. Wyatt, 35, a native
of Morganton, North Carolina, who was residing in Hixson,
Tennessee, was a decorated active-duty field artillery
operations man who had completed deployments to Iraq and
Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, Marine Gunnery Sergeant Thomas J. Sullivan, 40, of
Springfield, Massachusetts, was a decorated active-duty field
artillery cannoneer who had completed deployments to Iraq and
the Western Pacific; and
WHEREAS, Marine Lance Corporal Squire K. Wells, 21, of
Marietta, Georgia, a field artillery cannoneer who had enlisted
in February 2014, was serving with Mike Battery on active-duty
operational support mobilization orders; and
WHEREAS, Marine Sergeant Carson A. Holmquist, 25, of
Grantsburg, Wisconsin, was a decorated active-duty diesel
mechanic specialist who had completed deployments to Japan and
Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, Navy Logistics Specialist 2nd Class Randall Smith,
26, of Paulding, Ohio, who sustained multiple wounds during the
attack, died on July 18, 2015; and
WHEREAS, LS2 Smith, a Navy reservist on active duty in
Chattanooga, was a decorated surface warfare specialist who had
previously deployed aboard an amphibious assault ship; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania mourns the loss of these heroic individuals and

notes with respect their steadfast presence in the Chattanooga
community, their unfailing support of their fellow service
members and their contributions to the security and defense of
our nation; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania honor and remember the five fallen
service members who were killed or mortally wounded during a
mass shooting at a joint Navy and Marine Corps facility in
Chattanooga, Tennessee, on July 16, 2015.
