A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of October 2015 as "National Disability
Employment Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, "National Disability Employment Awareness Month"
(NDEAM) is observed in October each year; and
WHEREAS, NDEAM is a nationwide campaign that raises awareness
about disability employment issues and honors the many
contributions of America's workers with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, NDEAM traces its history to 1945, when Congress
declared the first week in October each year "National Employ
the Physically Handicapped Week"; and
WHEREAS, In 1962, the word "physically" was removed to
acknowledge the needs and contributions of individuals with all
types of disabilities; and
WHEREAS, In 1988, Congress expanded the week to a month and

adopted its current name; and
WHEREAS, The theme for this year, which marks 70 years since
the first observance of NDEAM, is "My Disability is One Part of
Who I Am"; and
WHEREAS, There is no equivalent to NDEAM in the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
month of October 2015 as "National Disability Employment
Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
