A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the 100th anniversary of the founding of Harcum
College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Harcum College was founded in 1915 by Edith Hatcher
and Octavius Harcum as a music school for women, the first such
college in Pennsylvania cofounded by a woman; and
WHEREAS, Harcum College became the first junior college in
Pennsylvania authorized to grant the associate degree of arts
and sciences in 1955; and
WHEREAS, The college became coeducational and added nursing
and radiologic technology programs in 2003; and
WHEREAS, Harcum College remains committed to Edith Harcum's
ideal to provide women and men with outstanding career
preparation for the possibility of a rewarding career and a
fulfilling life; and
WHEREAS, Harcum College today enrolls approximately 1,600

students, offers 23 degree programs including nursing, the
allied health professions, business and the social sciences, and
is known to thousands of students and alumni nationwide as "The
College of Possibilities;" therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
100th anniversary of the founding of Harcum College in Bryn
Mawr, Pennsylvania.
