A RESOLUTION
Recognizing June 15, 2015, as the 800th anniversary of the
signing of the Magna Carta.
WHEREAS, The signing of the Magna Carta took place at
Runnymede, England, on June 15, 1215, fostering the idea of the
law standing above the government; and
WHEREAS, The Magna Carta has been called the foundation of
liberty and is often credited with creating the rights and
freedoms that can be found under the Constitution of the United
States and other important documents of countries across the
world: uncensored newspapers, security of property, equality
before the law, habeas corpus, regular elections, sanctity of
contract and jury trials; and
WHEREAS, It is fitting to recognize the anniversary of "The
Great Charter" that significantly inspired American law;
therefore be it
