A RESOLUTION
Recognizing June 10, 2015, as "Veterans Day at the Capitol 2015"
in Pennsylvania to highlight the accomplishments and needs of
Pennsylvania's veterans as well as to continue to raise
awareness of the issues veterans face and the benefits they
receive while residing in this Commonwealth.
WHEREAS, "Veterans Day at the Capitol 2015" is a one-day
event designed for veterans and service members to represent
their organizations in Pennsylvania's Capitol Building to
discuss their organizations' priorities and purpose to the
legislators of Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Veterans Commission is
comprised of representatives from 15 different veteran
organizations, including The American Legion, AMVETS, Blinded
Veterans Association, Catholic War Veterans of the United States

of America, Disabled American Veterans, Jewish War Veterans of
the United States, Marine Corps League, Military Officers
Association of America, Military Order of the Purple Heart,
State Association of County Directors of Veterans' Affairs,
Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Italian-American
War Veterans of the United States, The Vietnam Veterans of
America, American Ex-Prisoners of War and Keystone Paralyzed
Veterans Association; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Veterans Commission was
formed to represent the honorable veterans of this Commonwealth
and embodies the service values of veterans from various wars in
which the United States fought; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is committed to veterans and provides
various services and resources which are accessible through the
Department of Military and Veterans Affairs; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is the birthplace of the United States
Army, the United States Marine Corps and the United States Navy;
and
WHEREAS, The veterans of Pennsylvania, from a time of war or
from a time of peace, are fundamental citizens of this
Commonwealth and the communities within it; and
WHEREAS, Military veterans offer Pennsylvania valued
leadership, workmanship and neighbors based on their experiences
while serving in the United States military; and
WHEREAS, Veterans from Pennsylvania volunteered or were
drafted to defend the United States of America, to protect the
citizens of the United States and this Commonwealth, and to
preserve our liberties; and
WHEREAS, There are nearly 1 million veterans, men and women
of all races, religions and ethnicities, that reside in

Pennsylvania along with their families, with their service
spanning from World War II to present; and
WHEREAS, Many veterans endure challenges to live their lives
to the fullest potential due to injuries, both mental and
physical, that they received while serving in the armed forces;
and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State Veterans Commission provides
insight and recommendations about veteran's issues, needs and
concerns from throughout this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs
offers assistance to Pennsylvania's veterans and their families,
and provides quality care for aging and disabled veterans; and
WHEREAS, There are nearly 700,000 wartime veterans who are
residents of this Commonwealth, nearly 58,000 are veterans from
World War II, nearly 93,000 are veterans from the Korean War,
309,000 are veterans from the Vietnam Conflict, nearly 236,000
are veterans from the Persian Gulf War and nearly 83,000 are
veterans from the Global War on Terror; and
WHEREAS, The citizens of this Commonwealth are grateful and
appreciative to all of our veterans for their selfless service
to this nation and the Commonwealth; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize June
10, 2015, as "Veterans Day at the Capitol 2015" to highlight the
accomplishments and needs of Pennsylvania's veterans as well as
to continue to raise awareness of the issues veterans face and
the benefits they receive while residing in this Commonwealth.
