A RESOLUTION
Designating May 9, 2015, as "National Association of Letter
Carriers (NALC) Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, On Saturday, May 9, 2015, the National Association
of Letter Carriers will conduct its annual NALC "Stamp Out
Hunger" food drive to combat hunger in the United States; and
WHEREAS, This year will mark the 23rd anniversary of the
nation's largest single-day food drive, which is held in all 50
states and territories of the United States; and
WHEREAS, On May 9, 2015, letter carriers will collect
nonperishable food donations as they deliver mail along their
postal routes; and
WHEREAS, The food will be collected in over 10,000
communities by letter carriers and other volunteers; and
WHEREAS, Donations will be delivered to food banks, pantries

and shelters that serve the area where the donations are
collected; and
WHEREAS, The summer months are a particularly critical time
when donations and supplies are low and school lunch programs
are not available for local youth; and
WHEREAS, Families must find alternate sources of nutrition
and the food drive is one way to help; and
WHEREAS, Postal customers are encouraged to participate by
leaving donations by their mailboxes on May 9, 2015; and
WHEREAS, Past sponsors of the NALC "Stamp Out Hunger" food
drive have included the United States Postal Service, the
National Rural Letter Carriers' Association, United Way, the
Campbell Soup Company, Valpak, Inc., the Feeding America
organization, Valassis, Inc., the AFL-CIO, AARP and America's
Second Harvest Food Bank network; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1993, the nationwide food
drive has collected and delivered more than 1.3 billion pounds
of food to help hungry families, and last year carriers
collected almost 73 million pounds of food, which is the 11th
consecutive year the effort has exceeded 70 million pounds; and
WHEREAS, Locally, letter carriers have delivered more than
2.1 million pounds of food to Second Harvest Food Bank and its
member agencies over the years; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate May 9,
2015, as "National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out
Hunger Food Drive Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the National Association of Letter Carriers
and its cosponsors be commended for their humanitarian efforts
to stamp out hunger; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the residents of this Commonwealth be

commended for their past participation in the "Stamp Out Hunger"
food drive and encouraged to contribute to this year's effort to
feed the hungry.
