A RESOLUTION
Congratulating Lehigh University on reaching its 150th
anniversary and extending warmest wishes for a future replete
with ever-increasing success.
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives takes great pride in
recognizing those organizations which, through adherence to the
highest standards of service, contribute in an impactful way
toward educating men and women who can lead in establishing a
better and more productive society; and
WHEREAS, Lehigh University is celebrating its founding in
1865 with a sesquicentennial celebration during the 2015-2016
academic year which will commence on Founder's Day, October 2,
2015, and conclude with commencement on May 23, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Asa Packer founded Lehigh University just as the
City of Bethlehem and the greater Lehigh Valley region were
undergoing a period of enormous change and growth; and

WHEREAS, Judge Packer exhibited the notion that what the
world needed during those times was people educated beyond just
technical skills; and
WHEREAS, Then, as now, there was a need for individuals
broadly educated in all that constitutes the liberal arts and
sciences who can combine practical skills with informed
judgments and strong moral self-discipline; and
WHEREAS, Currently, this thriving university has 5,000
undergraduate students and 2,000 graduate students in four
colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of
Business and Economics, the College of Education and the P.C.
Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Sciences; and
WHEREAS, The outstanding academic reputation of Lehigh
University is known around the world; and
WHEREAS, During its sesquicentennial anniversary celebration,
Lehigh University will shine a light on the people, places,
events, breakthroughs and traditions that have withstood the
test of time and have made Lehigh University's the institution
that it is today, and is poised for tomorrow; and
WHEREAS, While the sesquicentennial is a perfect time to
reflect on Lehigh University's rich history and celebrate all
the notable achievements, it is also an important time to be
looking forward to the next 150 years and envisioning the impact
of Lehigh University's students and graduates and their
accomplishments on our world; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate
Lehigh University on reaching its 150th anniversary and extend
warmest wishes for a future replete with ever-increasing
success.
