A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the 100th anniversary of Kiwanis International.
WHEREAS, According to its defining statement adopted in 2004,
Kiwanis International is a global organization of volunteers
dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a
time; and
WHEREAS, Founded on January 21, 1915, in Detroit, Michigan,
and with headquarters now in Indianapolis, Indiana, Kiwanis
International assembles the resources of service-minded and
community-minded individuals from 96 countries to address local
and worldwide issues; and
WHEREAS, Guided by six permanent "Objects of Kiwanis," as
adopted in 1924 and remaining unchanged through the decades,

Kiwanis club members develop personal and professional
connections while pursuing fun, learning and fellowship and
helping others; and
WHEREAS, Kiwanis International initiatives place continuing
focus on the needs of children, including pediatric trauma,
child safety, child care, early development and infant and child
health and nutrition; and
WHEREAS, Young Children Priority One is an ongoing community
service program of Kiwanis International benefiting children
through five years of age; and
WHEREAS, Kiwanis further supports service clubs such as K-
Kids, Aktion Club, Key Club International, Circle K, Builders
Club and Kiwanis Junior; and
WHEREAS, Other service projects address literacy, substance
abuse prevention, youth sports and recreation, disaster response
or other needs found among individuals or within communities;
and
WHEREAS, The Centennial Internet Club, the most recently
chartered and most geographically diverse club, includes members
from ten nations; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania District of Kiwanis International
consists of more than 200 Kiwanis clubs throughout this
Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Kiwanis International maintains a continuing
partnership with the Pennsylvania Early Learning Investment
Commission to foster early learning opportunities; and
WHEREAS, Through the PA Reads program, Kiwanis International
members distribute books and read aloud to tens of thousands of
children Statewide; and
WHEREAS, Kiwanis International empowers people at every stage

of life to become good citizens and compassionate leaders
through its local clubs and districts and its service leadership
programs for children and youths; and
WHEREAS, Service is at the heart of every Kiwanis
International club; and
WHEREAS, The House of Representatives commends Kiwanis
International for its long participation in the challenging work
of improving communities and its history of conducting
meaningful local and global service projects; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
100th anniversary of Kiwanis International.
