AN ACT
Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
act relating to the public school system, including certain
provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
laws relating thereto," in certification of teachers, further
providing for continuing professional development, for
program of continuing professional education and for charter
schools.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Section 1205.1 of the act of March 10, 1949
(P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949, is
amended by adding a subsection to read:
Section 1205.1. Continuing Professional Development.--* * *
(g) Beginning on the effective date of this subsection and
notwithstanding any other provision of this section, each school
entity shall have one additional year to submit to the secretary
for approval a three-year professional education plan as
required under subsection (a). During the additional year, the
school entity's current professional education plan may remain

in effect. This subsection shall expire one year from its
effective date.
Section 2. Section 1205.2 of the act is amended by adding a
subsection to read:
Section 1205.2. Program of Continuing Professional
Education.--* * *
(n.2) Beginning on the effective date of this subsection and
notwithstanding any other provision of this section, each
professional educator's current continuing professional
education compliance period under subsection (a) shall be
extended by one year. This subsection shall expire one year from
its effective date.

Section 3. Section 1205.3 of the act, added November 23,
1999 (P.L.529, No.48), is amended to read:
Section 1205.3. Charter Schools.--[An] (a) Subject to
subsection (b), an uncertified teacher or administrator who is
employed full time by a charter school shall comply with the
continuing professional education requirements of sections
1205.1 and 1205.2(a) through (c) to maintain employment in a
charter school. The charter school shall maintain the records of
an uncertified teacher or administrator who is employed full
time by a charter school.
(b) Beginning on the effective date of this subsection and
notwithstanding any other provision of this section, the current
continuing professional education compliance period of each
uncertified teacher or administrator who is employed full time
by a charter school shall be extended by one year. This
subsection shall expire one year from its effective date.
Section 4. This act shall take effect immediately.
