AN ACT
Designating a portion of State Route 74 in Cumberland County as
the Marine Lance Corporal Gary Lee Ream Memorial Highway.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Marine Lance Corporal Gary Lee Ream Memorial
Highway.
(a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as
follows:
(1) Gary Lee Ream was born July 25, 1945, in Carlisle,
Pennsylvania.
(2) Lance Corporal Ream attended Carlisle Area High
School and, after graduating, entered the United States
Marine Corps in October 1964, where he served two years.
(3) Lance Corporal Ream was stationed in the Quang Nam

Province in the Republic of Vietnam as part of the 1st
Platoon, C Company, 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st
Marine Division.
(4) Lance Corporal Ream died November 3, 1966, at 20
years of age while serving as point man of a combat patrol
near Hoi An, Republic of Vietnam, where he and his squad were
caught in an enemy ambush in which he was hit by enemy rifle
and machine gun fire.
(5) Lance Corporal Ream was awarded the Purple Heart,
the Combat Action Ribbon, the Navy Presidential Unit Citation
ribbon with one bronze star, the National Defense Service
Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze star, the
Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation with Gallantry
Cross, the Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation
Civil Action Ribbon with Palm, AND the Vietnam Campaign Medal
with 1960 device awarded to family, not to soldier, in honor
of his service to his country.
(6) Lance Corporal Ream, son of Wallace R. Ream Sr. and
Lois C. Ream, as well as brother to five siblings, was
selflessly serving our country at the time of his death. His
actions exemplified the honor, courage and duty to country
associated with a member of the United States Marine Corps.
(b) Designation.--The section of State Route 74 in
Cumberland County from the eastern corporate limits of Carlisle
Borough to the intersection of State Route 74 with Ashland
Avenue is hereby designated the Marine Lance Corporal Gary Lee
Ream Memorial Highway.
(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the highway to
traffic in both directions on the highway.

Section 2. Effective date.
This act shall take effect immediately IN 60 DAYS.
