AN ACT
Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
act relating to the public school system, including certain
provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
laws relating thereto," repealing a provision relating to
Bible reading in public schools.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Section 1516 of the act of March 10, 1949
(P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949,
amended December 17, 1959 (P.L.1928, No.700), is repealed:
[Section 1516. Bible Reading in Public Schools.--At least ten
verses from the Holy Bible shall be read, without comment, at
the opening of each public school on each school day. Any child
shall be excused from such Bible reading, or attending such
Bible reading, upon the written request of his parent or
guardian.]
Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
