AN ACT
Designating a portion of Pennsylvania Route 22 in Mifflin County
as the Corporal John S. Valent Memorial Highway.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Corporal John S. Valent Memorial Highway.
(a) Findings.--
(1) Corporal John S. Valent was born on July 22, 1922,
in Blandburg, Cambria County, Pennsylvania.
(2) Corporal Valent served for three years in the United
States Navy during World War II.
(3) Corporal Valent enlisted in the Pennsylvania State
Police on February 1, 1946, at 23 years of age.
(4) Corporal Valent served honorably in the Pennsylvania
State Police for 25 years.

(5) Corporal Valent was killed in the line of duty on
December 9, 1971, while on patrol on State Route 22 in
Granville Township, Mifflin County.
(6) At 49 years of age, Corporal Valent became the 67th
member of the Pennsylvania State Police to make the ultimate
sacrifice in service to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
(b) Designation.--The section of Pennsylvania Route 22 in
Mifflin County from the intersection of West 4th Street and
Reservoir Lane in Lewistown Borough to the intersection of
Business 22 and Industrial Park Road in Granville Township,
Mifflin County, is hereby designated the Corporal John S. Valent
Memorial Highway.
(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the highway to
traffic in both directions on the highway.
Section 2. Effective date.
This act shall take effect immediately IN 60 DAYS.
